Travertine marble is a natural stone of rare beauty, appreciated for its elegance and versatility. Characterized by soft veins and warm shades ranging from ivory white to golden beige, up to grey and light brown. Its delicate colours make it ideal to create indoors and outdoors refined and harmonious design projects.
Travertine is historically extracted mainly in Italy, in quarries active since the Roman Empire. This stone has a long tradition, initially used over 2000 years ago. Travertine has been used to build some of the most iconic monuments in the world: the Colosseum and St Peter’s Basilica are just two examples of magnificent elements created using this amazing marble.
Widely used in architectural and design projects, travertine is appreciated by architects all over the world for its durability and resistance to all climate conditions. It is used for flooring, claddings, stairs and columns. In recent decades, it has been also used for contemporary design, in bathrooms, kitchens and terraces, giving a touch of natural elegance.
An interesting curiosity concerns the Colosseum: more than 50% of its original structure was made of travertine. However, over the centuries, much of the travertine was removed and re-used in other buildings in Rome. This demonstrates the strength of this marble appreciated for centuries for its beauty and versatility.
